My 54' 3100 is a 3-on-the-tree. I am trying to find out what the "name" of the trans is (like muncie whatever, or saginaw whatever). I have looked in both the factory assembley manual and my repair manual, the trans is designated as a "selective syncromesh" in the repair book. I have visually inspected the trans and it matches the photo in the manual, so i'm fairly sure its the original.

The standard 3-speed truck tranny in '54 was a Muncie. There was also an optional heavy duty 3-speed by Warner Gear. If you can find the serial number stamped on the flat spot on the left side of the case just to the rear of the side cover, you can verify which tranny it is. The serial number will start with M for Muncie, or W for Warner. I'm not sure either of these went by any particular name or model number.

The reason I ask, I'm interested in converting the three-on-the-tree to a floor shifter. The new Classis Trucks gave me the idea. The only problem is, I have no idea which shifter to buy for the conversion. If anybody has an idea I'd be grateful.

I can't give any specific shifter recommendations, but Hurst makes several universal 3-speed shifters that can be used for column shift conversions. Check them out here.
