Well after waiting very patiently for many months my rare military Coe Van arrived today from Colorado!

Only 1900 some of this GMC model were built for the US military as the war started. Dual rears ( taken off to transport it!), dual rear speed end and four wheel drive! They were used for mobile parts workshops and ordinance trucks. They have a smoke stack on the roof for a stove or forge! Later on, this odd design was replaced by the purpose built 6X6 trucks we all have seen so many built during teh war years by Dodge, GMC and others.

My truck is a very complete and dry truck with no rust being from dry Colorado for so many years. NO major missing parts except the front drive shaft! It has the removable rear step (ladder) and original grill guard and a heavy brass plaque mounted on the side of the hood reading: "Ordinance Department- Military Spare Parts"

Millionaire Howard Hughes had nine or ten made into mobile office campers with full baths and kitchens and early air conditioning. One of his early COE house car conversions exists in a museum out west.

I am now asking felow Stovebolters who may know for any help you may have about information or photos of this model GMC COE or this Wayne (Bus Company) body. I have found a few images of this model on the Internet, but would love to know more about this big one! Any photos, Engines, body builder etc!

Thanks and Good trucking all!

Good catch Old COEs! I saw an artist's rendition of a COE panel on the net and very nearly bought a COE instead of the panel I bought. That thing you have is the ultimate SUV. Move over Expedition, the big boy is in town! (They didn't have two of them did they?)

Wow! Sweet 4x4! Just curious--how does the 4x4 work with the 2 speed rear end? It seems a little old to have some sort of electric lock-out or something on it. Is the front axle also 2 speed, or do you just have to be paying attention when it's in 4 wheel mode? Nice find!

Nice truck!!! And it fits on that itty-bitty hauler, too, bet THAT was fun to drive!!!

You were talking about putting in a 502 BBC with a blower, big Rockwell axles, and all that eek !!! Maybe you weren't, I forget! Should be a cool rig when she's done.

My input in my new "Name Old Coes' New Van" contest: Bertha. Just looks like a Bertha.

OK it took me a few days to remeber to do this, I had all I know about these trucks Army 4X4 GMC AFKX352 , posted on my Old COE Truck site, which I gave away to Max over at ClassicCOE.com .

I have three pictures (four now) of these truck I just posted so you can add them to your collection here: GMC AFKX352 .

The dark green one I seen in the Ogden Utah area, it has been spotted by me at about four different shops now, I took pics the frist time I seen it. I was test driving a bus the other day and sppotted it again, looks like some one if finaly fixing it up, If I see it again, I'll spot and get some more pics...

Wow Jolly! Thanks so much!

Your help and potos are great!

If you can get me names of any owners you have run into I would be very happy to talk with them and get their names and contact info! Maybe even make up a AFKX register to keep track of how many we can find still around and sound!

Be well !

As a fan of military vehicles as well as Stovebolts, I have to say that is one unique rig. Gets the imagination going with what you could do with it.

Congratulations with the "new" one.
Your picture died and your website has some mishaps too, or are you working on it?
