Driving home from work today my steering started feeling crazy in my '61.. But I mostly noticed totally erratic activity from the brake pedal. My driver's side inner tie rod nut had worked loose, the cotter pin must have broken off or something, don't know... Tried to limp it home but gave up after a few scary turns. I just totalled my work van a few months ago and got no stomach for further troubles. I called a tow truck and got it home.
Since then (about 3 hours ago) I've had everybody and his brother tell me how they temporarily tied their broken tie rod end together with shoe strings, coathangers, and anything else you can think of...
The tow truck driver said when my sister called him, that I had "some old truck, she didn't know what kind." I told him I'd set her straight when I got a chance.
