However, now I have what appears to be a leak from the front of the transmission. I originally thought rear main seal but this is running down the front of the tranny and along the bottom. Is the seal just out or does anyone think the synthetic would cause this? | | |

#17929 10/11/2004 1:44 AM | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 1,586 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 1,586 | I use Redline gear oils,they tend to seep slightly where a mineral gear oil might not in vintage trannys. 3 and 4 speeds like yours don't have oil seals, just oil slingers, I don't think the synthetic slings as well as regular gear oil.The oil may be seeping past the front retainer to case gasket or the tranny is overfilled slightly.Check the lube after a ride when it's warm and expanded in volume. | | |
