Does anybody know if NC accepts year of manufacture license plates to be used on classic vehicles? (e.g. a 1948 plate as regular license plate on my 1948 truck) I asked at the DMV and they didn't even know what I was talking about.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. I found out about VA law concerning plates by doing a web search for the VA DMV. All there in black and white. NC may have the same information available--should have.

There was a law concerning using old plates in N.C., several years back. I don't know the exact wording, but you could run any vintage tags on your car, as long as you had a current plate, with registration, inside the car. N.C. DMV controls that and if your local office doesn't know, contact the main office in Raleigh, NC.
