Alright...my 54 is in primer, but still looks great..this is it, does anyone else have neighbors that always ask you "when you gonna get it painted?" and "what color you gonna paint it?" and "I know a guy who could paint it for ya"..I'll paint the darn thing when I think it's ready...Of course, my truck is older than most people around here..Hmmm..Maybe I should paint it camo with rattle cans, that should get a reaction

Yes my 54 1/2 ton is in gray primer because I like the look. Strangers always ask "when ya gonna paint it"/what color etc. I just say it IS painted and they get that look on their faces like they suddenly realize they're dealing with the clinically insane and it's safest not to take the conversation any further. Originally I thought of painting it faux rust to look like I'd just dragged it out of a field. Think what they would have said then.

I got the Nov 2003 Street Rodder with the how-to about doing faux patina paint. It looks totally cool. Anyone with a 'bolt done that way?

Aside: interesting the effect of a rechromed grill. Wherever I go now people ask if the truck is for sale. Before the chrome job they only ever said it was cute etc. and how their dad/uncle/grandad/brother/whatever used to have one. Funny how a little sparkle creates the itch to buy.

This thread is too funny and hits home! Now that my 56 is on the road I park it in front of our country store... it's a great conversation starter. And YES lots of folks ask "when ya gonna.... what color...." My reply is "Recently someone told me that grey primer is actually quite trendy... so I guess I'm ahead of the curve!"

Thing is, if I need to touch it up, a little fine steel wool, rag, and another rattle can..brand new!...And I don't have to spend $ on wax..I do shine the chrome though, My grill will make oncoming traffic put their shades on..Love it

I get asked that all the time. What color is it gonna be? I like mine primer black too. I'll probably paint it someday, but that means I need to get the rest of the dents out of it first.
