I'd like to put it back to original and need information on the correct transmission to look for. All I know so far is the info off the 6066 GMC website that calls for a SM318 transmission. Are there any other numbers, codes, whatever I need to look for to get the correct transmission? All help is appreciated. | | |

There was a HD model but they are very rare. You can use the 67 up 3 speed. A better tranny & has syncro 1st gear but takes some modification especialy with a column shift. I don,t know why you would want to change back though that 4 speed is tough.

I would like to restore the truck back to original. The 4 speed in it came out of a Ford 1 ton I was told. Other than that it's all there and original. I'm going to the swap meet at The Woodlands tomorrow and want to know what to look for. Any numbers on the case, length, mounting points, number of mounts, things like that. I found a transmission in Lincoln last month for $20 but wasn't sure it was the correct style for my truck and neither was the seller. | | |
