hi everyone, i'm new to this forum and i have a few ?s about my truck's 6 cylinder...
i have been told that i need to heat the fuel by way of the bottom of the manifold which i thought was crazy because i'm in texas and its pretty hot, people have trouble w/ vapor locking not needing heat so i never did it, but i havent been able to get the hesitation out so i decided to try it. when i hooked up the hoses and everything and started it it leaked out of the bottom of the manifold, i have an offenhauser manifold with a kit that i got from "Landon's Stovebolt 6" to hook up the water flow, has anyone dealt w/ this or hooked up a similar setup on their engine??

Jump into the Carter/Weber Help thread in Engine and Drivetrain Forum that's been pretty active lately. You'll see some discussion about this topic. It appears that you're the fourth person this weekend trying to setup an Offy intake.

I think I solved the leak issue with gold RTV.

It's like PermaGasket. You can get it at your parts store. It's a liquid gasket sealer. Let it set up 24 hours before putting pressure to it.

Sorry I got you pointed in the wrong direction. I assumed everyone on that thread was comfortable with the expanded subject. For me it was all related.

You'll find a lot of help on this site. Don't be discouraged by this early mixup.

Tell us a little about yourself. I've surmized from your age and the fact that you're a student that you're in college. Where? What's your major? What's your interest in stovebolts? I'm guessing you have a 78. 78 what?

thanks jerry for the encouragment, and don't worry it doesnt bother me, i'm sure he was just having a bad day.

I'm in Austin Texas, like most other students i am lost between majors, i like to learn so everything interests me until i find out there's more then i want to major in that too but for now i'm most interested in majoring in business and i really want to become a firefighter.

i have a 78 chevy longbed that i got from my dad who has had the truck since it was only a few months old, a guy had it and i guess couldnt afford it after a few months so my dad has had it since. my interests in inlines comes from just wanting to do somthing different. the truck has the original 250 i lowered it and put a cd player and a bed liner, few other things and everyone says "wow there's lots of room under the hood, get a big block, get a 350, get a ..." so i just want to be different and i heard that there was a group of guys who make hot rod 6s so i decided to find you guys and since have put langdon's spilt exhaust, offenhauser manifold, four barrel holley and hopefully soon more to come.

This doesn't get to your main problem but a vapor lock is a fuel pump problem. Fuel pumps are lousy at pumping hot, vaporized fuel (also called gassed gasoline). If you take the ice cube out of whatever you are drinking and put it on the fuel pump, a vapor lock should disappear. A dripping wet rag wrapped around the fuel pump has the same effect.

I'm a student as well. I got my undergrad at Indiana University and will be attending Eastern Michigan to pursue a masters in historic preservation. My wife is in law school... so I'm literally rolling up penny's to get my Belairbolt on the road.

i hooked up the manifold heater and i cant say for sure if that was what did it but this thing is running better than it has as long as i can remember. i also cleaned the carb real good and adjusted the mixture while i was there so the combination has done wonders.

as for schools i have bounced around, after hs i went to the US Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, decided to come home, finishing a year at Community college and hopefully transfering to the University of Texas. look forward to asking you all tons of questions when i mess stuff up.
