hey there...
i'm restoring a '59 apache fleetside 1/2 ton and currently I'm rebuilding the rear end. what is an acceptable clearence for the ring and pinion? thanks for your help....also, on the color of the engine block does it matter for originality purposes if I paint the block a different color than from the factory? currently it's orange and I would like to paint it the blue flame...

Specs for the pinion are in the factory shop manual, which is a vital tool for working on these old trucks. Filled with good info, and well worth the $25 to $30 investment. Highly recommended that you obtain one. Hopefully, in the meantime, someone with a manual will step in with the specs.

As far as the engine color, if you are concerned about the originality, yes, the color matters. On the other hand, it's your truck and you can paint it whatever color you desire. You have to determine if you are going to enter in a show where originality is scored on a point basis. For some people this is important. For others, it's not. One of the advantages of living in a free country.

Pork: Have the same truck rebuilding, As they say it's your truck. My motor is orange right now but after looking at many pictures I kinda like when they paint the motor same as truck. I have not made a final decision tho. Motor sitting on stand so it will be many days before that has to be decided. popcorn The Truth is Out There (Its your's)
