while cruising through the country, not far from where i live, i spotted a early 50's suburban. it appears sorta rough, but all there from what i can see. it has the lift up type back door.

izzit worth draggin' home? i haven't seen any of them around here that i can ever remember.

If the clamshell back doors are good, it's worth the effort to salvage it. Yhey're very $carce! I'd suggest grabbing it up, and either part it out on Ebay, or put it on the project list. I'd love to find a set of clamshell doors for my 59, but i don't think the earlier ones will swap.

There are a lot of parts that are unique to a Suburban. Clamshells are hard to find and even in poor shape the parts that are attached are good to get: glass,holders, interior and exterior handles, upper and lower hinges etc. The rear interior trim is always a good catch if you can get them, they rust because of leaves and debris sitting in the channel for a long period of time. If it has the rear seats (more common with clamshells)they are worth saving, rear fenders etc. Another piece that is worth saving is the step-up piece that attaches the floor to the rear doors (the bottom of the doors and the bumper valence attach to it) The real question is space, time and storage. A clean title and tag are always wanted. My two cents!

If the hard to find parts are good, grab it to part it out. You shouldn't have too much trouble recovering your money.

All the lower sheetmetal back of teh doors is hard to find. Rear fenders, rear doors, rear glass and trim, all of it can be hard to find.

ok-guess i'll go check it out. while i was in the neighborhood i talked to a guy who GAVE me a 48 1 1/2 ton. it's pretty well shot except for a piece that's on the front bumper that looks like a grill guard. it's chrome and not in too bad a shape. it also has good trim around the windows--looks like aluminum or stainless. will torch the rest i suppose. except for the wrap around windows in the back of the cab. when i do all this stuff i think i'll post things here on the bolt before i think about e-bay. you guys ought to do the private message thing when i post i have the trucks at home. better we help each other out on this wesite i figure, than to go to strangers. i'll have to check the rules, because i'll probably just let things go to the highest bidder on the stovebolt page. as long as i do lose money, i could care.
