Does anyone know ( and I'm sure you do) How those Gas stamps during the war years ( that's WW2 ) The A,B,C stamps corresponded with the vehicle license?

Interesting site,I am old enough to remember rationing during WW2 but being very young at the time I never fully understood how it worked.I know my dad was allowed so much gas each week and that was it.If he used it up early he walked the rest of the week. Also remember products such as sugar being rationed. And of course the blackouts.

I rememember dad using gas stamps. There was a gas station in our neighborhood that had a secret gas pump in the back for special customers. If dad ran out of stamps he could pull around back and get gas. I am pretty sure it was against the law but people with money could get anything they wanted anyhow. This guy was just a nice guy to the local working class.
