i can't find anyting searching around... what brake fluid should go in my 52 3/4 ton?

dot 3 or dot 4? there are dot 3/4 compatible ones out there i've used on other vehicles.

anything special here?

I use dot3. The 4 is a higher temp, and compatible, but the higher boiling temp doesn't matter on these trucks. There is also Dot5, silicone base, which doesn't absorb water. To use it you need to replace all of the rubber in your system. Dot5 also is a bit more sluggish, so some don't like it.

dot 5 also turns to sludge when combined with standard fluid. maybe if i did a complete rebuild.

and now to bastardize my own thread.... how about the differential and transmission?

standard 90wt?

Straight 90 or 80W-90 in the differential and tranny.

Steering gear, there is a special lube available, but per GM you can use chassis lube, I prefer the moly base since it does better at lower temps. If you put gear lube in, it will leak out in a hurry.

For the hood badges, go to some of the on-line vendors and look around. There are also some tech pages that spell out the year differences, I think on this board and at some of the vendors. There's also a website about old Chevy trucks that lists all the differences. Think there was a thread about it at http://chevygmcofkc.org/

I hate to cut and run, but it's a zoo here at work right now.

on the break fluids.Don't mix silicone & reg break fluid.If your driving daily the reg fluid is fine.If truck is setting for months at a time,use silicone break fluid.Remember water will pit the break wheel cyclinders.Silicone cost more,but in the long run will save you $$$$$.I use silicone and have seen no difference in the breaking of my truck,stopping.

One of the things I really like about DOT 5 is that it doesn't remove paint like DOT 3 does.

good point, but if you know what my truck looks like removing paint isn't a bad thing
