I was going to install the oil pump on my 454 and noticed that the oil pump came with an extra blue spring. The instructions say to use the blue spring to make it a high pressure pump or leave it alone for the standard oil pressure. Someone told me that a high pressure pump will drain all the oil out of the pan if you are not using an aftermarket extra capacity oil pan. When I mentioned this to my engine builder friend he laughed and said he has always used the high pressure spring with stock oil pans and never had a problem. What do you Stovebolters think is this fact or fiction? What are the pros/cons about using the high pressure spring in a stock volume oil pump? Just trying to decide cuz once the oiil pan in on theres no going back.
Thanks

A high pressure pump will increase the oil temp but not the flow
Each engine is different but the pump will not suck oil at a faster rate only push it at a higher pressure

Perhaps your friend was talking about a high volume pump but I still doubt that sump size is an issue
