I have always had the best results by trying to scrape off the caked on grease with a putty knife and a wire brush. Unless you use high water pressure, de-greasers will not remove caked on crud.
Get the heavy stuff with the putty knife and then follow with the de-greaser.

I would go along with 53 4 me's suggestion, except I like to use " Castrol Super Clean". Easy-off is cheaper, though...........it's just kerosene and lye.......... Don't get any of the above mentioned products on your hands, it will eat them up big time!
