Ok, I have been to swap meets before, but after years of having no time or money for this, I finally got back into the hobby with the '47 panel a year ago. Well, work and school keeps me from spending much time, but school ends in February!

So Scott Ward (48 Bigtrucks) gave me the heads up on the custom car club swap meet this weekend out at the local speedway. I went, looking for some taillights for the panel. Didn't find them, but I did pick up a gauge cluster with a nice round speedometer and fuel gauge for $10.00. They thought they were from a '78 Camaro. Speedo goes to 130! Like as if my truck will ever see that! At least 65 will be straight up.

I did learn some things about my panel, and got some ideas for the taillights. Froze my buns off in the process. I noticed a lot of guys dressed like it was the arctic. Think I learned something there too...

Not five minutes after I bought the gauges, I found another set that looked like they would work too. $110.00! I tucked my little $10.00 deal under my arm and moved on.

You'll be surprised what you can learn at a good swapmeet. Half the fun is talking to people.

Let's see. It's only October. Temperature range yesterday for your area was about 28F to 48F. It ain't even cold out yet.

We have a swap meet here the first weekend of February. Part of it is outdoors. We have weather then that ranges from a balmy 50F to a bone-chilling 0F with snow and freezing rain, with 40 mph winds thrown in for good measure.

Guess you better not come to that one.

I'm no pansy when it comes to cold weather, I was a paperboy for five years growing up and ran a towing service for something like ten years as a younger adult. (They never seem to call the towtruck when it's nice out...) The day of the swap meet was about 35 degrees when I got there and might have made it up over 40 before I left, but it was windy. I wasn't dressed for it and it was just plain raw! I should have guessed it, but I overestimated my hardiness, (or underestimated my foolhardiness ) Started out with a sore throat to boot, and now I'm paying for it.

Oh well, good excuse to call in sick tomorrow and spend the day getting the week's homework done. (I gotta get the decks cleared for next Saturday so I can take the wife up north on a leaf tour, farmers' markets, craft sales,etc. Paybacks for using half a Saturday to do something just for me.)
