I have a '64 C10 stepside that I bought recently. It has an Olds 455 that I can't seem to get the ignition timing right on. My question is, how do I get it set initially? That is, if I bring CYL #1 to TDC, where is the benchmark to align the distrubitor to??

If no one has messed with the distributor cap the rotor should line up with the #1 plug wire on the cap. This should get you in the ballpark. A good timing light should finish it up. Remember this only works if the plug wires on the cap are in the right place.
