I have a chance to get a new process tranny out of 1978 Camaro. Will it bolt up in my 70 C/10 in place of my old muncie? I have the floor that is almost flat; will I need the floor pan with the taller hump? Is $200 a decent price for tranny and complete linkage?

But to answer your question, no you shouldn't need any mods whatsoever to get that trans to fit your truck. Not if you have the small, standard shift three speed (or 3 speed auto) in it now. It'll even use your old yoke!

Considering what these have gone for on Ebay lately I'd say that $200, for this tranny with shifter and all, is a very good price (though I paid $107 for my last one with shifter and all, but it has a cracked input retainer bearing housing - but I don't care, it's just another spare). And you're getting the matching bellhousing (and yours appear to have that Mopar-like pattern) - getting the correct bellhousing for that style/casting tranny is very important.

Try going to a tranny shop and getting a price for a rebuilt one (if he can even find one!) - in this area a shop gets upwards of $900.00 for one.

I think one of those trannys would be the perfect partner for the hopped up 250 I'm buildin' and the 4:11 butt gears I'm currently running. That overdrive 4th works out to about the same as running a 3:08 with a 1:1 high gear, and I get to keep my 1st and 2nd rubber burnin' rocket gears

T'aint me dude! I actually hate that I posted it now, since the bidding's taken off.

I don't plan on getting another one of these for quite some time. Haven't worked in 7 months + now so money is way tight! I already run one of these in my truck and have two spares in the garage. I'm way, WAY too cheap to spend $200+ for one of these. The last one I got last year off Ebay cost me 150 bucks - shifter, shipping and all. The one I'm running in the truck only cost $100 for everything (shipping too)! I'm spoiled rotten by cheap deals!

I did manage to snag a spare New Process overdrive shifter for 99 cents last night on Ebay, thanks to an inaccurate listing . Hey I'm cheap, not stupid (most of the time). :p

Ya the bidding is way up -- I'm out of it. I could buy a T5 for less than what the new process is up to now. Think I'll just keep my muncie for awhile: Awhile; as in probably a few years. I rebuilt my column shift so it works better than a new one, and I'm kinda stuck on that. Maybe I'll just compromise with 3:42 gears and call it good.

Good call! $305 is a bit pricey for a handy Stovebolter like yourself, for a transmission that still might have to be gone through completely when you get it. You can probably tack on $60-$75 for shipping on top of the high price. For what the current high bidder will pay for this used NP tranny with shipping I have about the same amount tied up in the fully rebuilt one in my truck.

I'll keep my eyes open for one and will email you privately with the first good deal I come across.
