There's a guy that wants to sell me a 63, right. It's got a 327 out of a '66, and the original powerglide tranny. He says it's a 2spd automatic. Is this right??!!? I could've sworn that the only thing they had (speaking about the powerglides of 60-66) were 3spd autos? Anybody know for sure? Thanks!

I for one have never seen a "60's" power-glide that wasn't a 2-speed automatic. By the way, I can't be wrong either.

Powerglide is a two-speed. As far as I know, the TH-350 was the first GM 3-speed auto.

1967 Chevy 1/2 ton

This old truck sure looks neat, but where are the heated seat controls?!?

At least you go the first part right.

The TH-400 was introduced in 1964 by Buick. The TH-350 was introduced in 1969 as the replacement for the powerglide.

According to Chevy Duty parts catalog, the information they give on changes for 60 to 66 trucks, 1966 is the year the Th350 three speed was available. There are differences in the emergency brake cables to work with the re-positioning of the cross-member to accept the Th350 mount. Maybe this will help.

My Chevelle has a powerglide. Like all other powerglides, it's 2 speed. Fast and faster.
(well, not in my car)
From what I understand they are virtually indestructable. Some of you have already heard the story of my 62 chevy II with powerglide, got slammed into reverse at 40mph by my girlfriend. Car came to a screaming stop and stalled. Started right back up and drove perfectly.

Power Glides are 2 speeds and we use one (1) in our dirt track car. Have one sitting in the shop corner also. popcorn The Truth is Out There (Life is way to busy for me)Ben

When I was a youngster we used to do that at 60 mph just for kicks and grins. A 65 Impala will go completely sideways while screeching to a rather dramatic stop! grin !

I can't agree that powerglides are nearly indestructible. Had one in a 63 Bel Air with a 300 hp 327. Around 120K miles it had been rebuilt twice, the first time with upgrades such as extra clutch discs. The second time was after the tranny slipped while I was driving down the road at 120 mph. After I rebuilt it I found I had blown a headgasket and ended up cracking the block. Sold it as fast as the old man would let me.

My info came from http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmission_gateway.htm
