You know, as I sit here sucking up a pail of gin to ward off the aches and pains of the 'Big C', it struck me that no one except dale937 ever looked at this site! I got to feeling that it's a shame that there weren't more 'Stovebolters' who were interested as this really is a tender spot. It's got enough trucks (Humvee's and Iraqui civilian types) to qualify as a post here. Surely, as a resident outside the continental USA, if I think it worthwhile, you might too!!!

Take a look! If you don't think it a worthwhile view--say so here and I'll disappear like the proverbial.

Hey Geoge,

I looked at it too. Been kinda busy and don't always get back to type something in. Sorry about that. I even showed it to the wife and some of the guys at work.

Sorry to hear about the "Big C". Being a fan of the Duke, I know whereof you speak. ( I watched him make that speech.) I'll say a prayer that you will whip it and be around for many more years of stovebolting.

The web presentation moved me and I wondered what the music was. Now that you got me to go look at it again, I see that the credits are listed on the webpage. Good choice of what to link into a post!

Brad

Something we should all look at, when we come home at the end of our "hard" work day, to our families. Gives a little perspective on what they have to endure over there. Next time I feel like grumbling about the rush hour traffic, I just might think about how well off I am, because of them, and those that went before.

I kinda liked the shot of the guy "filling up" the donkey.

And by the way, I see by your profile you're a retired airline pilot. I just watched the movie, "Catch Me if You Can". What a story, and what a turn around in his life after going straight. Did you ever meet the kid?

What equipment were you on? I have worked for the last 15 years on the Rockwell Collins IDS-7000 (computerized flight deck display system) for the 747-400. I will be moving over to the 7E7 flight deck development in a couple of months.

I saw it. I also see the "Support Our Troops" ribbon signs on the back of vehicles. All that does is help the guys who make those pretty magnetic ribbons. They ain't helping no Soldier, or Marine.

As for me, I don't know what else to do. I joined a Soldier Pal group, and I have adopted a 21 year old machine gunner, on a gun truck, in the 428th Transportation Company USAR, in Taji, Iraq, (a modern age stovebolter). I put my money, and my time, in support of this soldier. I send him all of the emotional, and material gift support that I can, to make his life bearable. I try to make his mission a success.

If the Jarge is fighting The GD Big C, and the rest of you are sitting on your rears bitchin' and moaning, something is wrong here. Call your local Army, or Marine Corps reserve and GET ACTIVE! You are never too old to help out.

Hi BradB!

I really appreciate your response. It must really be fantastic to be involved with the development of the 7E7. That is going to be an amazing airplane. I must say I envy you! I had attended meetings to discuss the 3 man/2 man 767 cockpit.

To answer your question, I retired after flying the 747 100/200 airplanes for 15 years. I had gone to Boeing for the course on the -400 but, unfortunately, our company decided to park the 'brand new' airplanes in the desert. That lasted for a couple of years and by the time they brought them on line I was near retirement so elected to remain on those 'sweethearts'.

I did see that movie 'Catch me if you can'. I enjoyed that and if I didn't know it was a true story wouldn't have believed it. What 'cagones'!!

jarge,

Thanks for that. My son signed up for 6 years with the Army and is still in training. We got to go to his graduation from basic a few months back. A hell of a kid. I could not be prouder.

You are in my prayers.

George,

We did the new flight deck for the 767 too. We called it LFDS. (Large Format Display System) Big honkin' LCD displays with all the PFD, Nav and EICAS stuff on them. We also did a project call AFDX, making an all ethernet connectivity that allows the flight deck displays and all the boxes on the plane to all be on a network, talking to each-other via IP addresses. Airbus is currently using that, and the 7E7 will have it too.

If it ever looks like you are heading this way, let me know and I will see if I can wrangle you a tour. Not the easiest thing since 9/11/01, but for a retired '47 driver, I'll bet I can get it done.

Brad

whoa there jarge! ya gotta have some faith that folks do indeed look at what you post. sometimes people are alittle busy, and some have been lurking here a long time and don't post. still, they look. some posts move down the list and are never responded to. they get looked at, but some posts, like this one, speak for themselves.

pretty good. wink

Please don't get mad at me and others that don't
respond Jarge. You might forget that we all get
a dose every evening on the news channel, seven
days a week. Most of whats being shown is pretty depressing for me because the news portrays all the bad things that are happening and I come to this post to escape for awhile. I
support all the troops in what they are trying to
accomplish. Hope you understand. Cecil......

Wasn't it Yoda who said, "There is no try, there is only do, or do not." ?

Pretty good wisdom for a muppet.

In the movie "Long Riders" about the Jesse James gang, Robert Carradine had a line. When he was in the locomotive holding a gun on the engineer and fireman, and one of them looked at this young kid and said, "What're you tryin' ta do, boy?" He said, "I ain't tryin', I'm doin'!"

That's our troops, they ain't tryin', they're doin'!

Wow, Jarge - that was a very good link. I will be sending it to most of the folks in our various address books -- including many of our Marines and one Army Captain in Kuwait.

And, KK is correct. A lot of folks zing in here and out. Many don't post. They are content to read and see what's going on. And that's fine.

But, I'm glad you were persistant - because I missed it the first time. Awesome link. Moving and motivating at the same time.

Thanks,
Peggy

This post is pushing the NO POLITICS rule here on Stovebolt
It's not an issue of support for the troops but what is appropiate here, cause in the past, these posts ALWAYS lead to too many unwanted opinions on a site supposedly for trucks.
I have loosened up a bit,but please keep this low key,I would like it to just fade away.
Thanks ,Tony

Tony!

You can delete this post. I tried but see it can only be done by moderators and administrators.

I had thought (toungue in cheek) that the link to trucks was via the Humvee's that showed up on the site. Since Humvee's are manufactued by AMGeneral, a division of General Motors, there was, I figured, an affiliation with 'Stovebolts'. OK, pushing too far.

Thanks to those who have posted. Thanks too to koolcar and 51jimmy. I should have realized that there are enough members on here that any post will get lots of views. Some get dozens of responses and you sometimes ask "how come". Others just dwindle away, but not unviewed.

Anyway; this web site had an effect on me that made we want to share it.

Regards, George

Great post George- I very much enjoyed it- reminded me of the first Gulf war in which I served albeit much less deadly. Can you please post this for my boatbuilding buddies at www.woodenboat.com- suggest post "non-boat" site. I would but I don't know how.

Dale!

I'd be most happy to post that link for you but the site is password protected. As a member there you must be able to access the site like you do here.

If you get on there just copy the web address like you did the the link to 'Wooden Boats'. That should work just fine for you. I hope this helps somewhat.

George
