ok, I have a '65 long wheel base (127"). With trailing arms and rear coil springs.

I am trying to install the later '66 type e brake system cuz my auto tranny is in the way of the orginal one plus - I had no e-brake system when I bought it - Previous Owner stuff.

I got the rear cables - on each rear wheel mounted - bracket on the trailing arm, clipped on good.

The cable that runs from the handle, down the steering column, through the cab to a hole in the frame - mounted up.

I have the bar that sits under the passenger side, the pig tale guides etc.. Plus connecter doodads...

but my 'intermediate' cable is too short. It's right about 10 feet long. from my measurements it needs to be another 3 feet long give or take an inch or two.

Does anyone know what this part number is? I'm gonan go try to hit some parts stores and see if maybe they have one...

and a question, are there some rubber grommets or something that goes in the cross member towards the rear that protect the brake cable?

No clue on the part #, you need 66-up intermediate cable. No grommets or anything, just bare holes, although I have seen later trucks w/nylon guides. Brian

secondly - I have some pics from someone else's truck('66 lwb) with coil springs - the bracket on the trailing arm looks to be farther up... maybe I need to drill a new hole? Hmn.

So uhm... what does the brake cable attach to inside the rear drum? Either i didn't see it/find it or it's missin'....

Prolly missing, attaches to rear brake shoe w/linkage, also will have a strut between shoes. Brian

I have the '63, '65 manuals and the 60-66 [censored]. manual... no joy so far on details on the nitty gritty inside.

There are grommets in the holes in the carrier bearing cross-member, as evidenced by the Factory Assembly Manual. They are missing from my '66, C-10, thus the braided e-brake cable is rubbing and fraying where they contact the cross-member. I have purchased some tubing that I will cut to length and weld into the holes to spread the bearing pressure on the cable over a larger area.

I you have the luxury, take a look at a truck that has the assembly in place. Seeing an installation in person is invaluable compared to looking in a assembly manual. I have to factory corrent assembly in my '66, C-10, however I am a long way from home for a few weeks on a project assignment or I would take some photos of the various assemblies for your use. If you haven't figured it out by the time I return, I will e-mail you some shots.

I've looked under a '66 gmc at a show.. and a '66 chevy - so I see how it gets routed - it's just not hookin' up. I measured up the intermediate cbale and went to the parts store - it's the same length as the ones they sell 119 inches or so...

So, not sure if maybe the two cables that go into the rear drums are too short or what.

Alrighty - part no. 16 attaches to part no. 20 ?

The brake cable attaches to part no. 16 ?

I don't think part no. 16, the spring, is in my drum.

So, can I buy the spring or is it part of a internal springs rebuild kit?

Woo... Part #16 is the spring thats hold the shoes together. you have to have one.. Your brake cable goes to part # 20. when you pull the brake cable it rotate part #20 and apply pressure to #14 which applys pressure to both brake shoes...
