any1 know if theres a late model chevy frame that a 1969 chevrolet c10 body will bolt onto. ive heard about old fords being dropped onto 82-93 s10 frames but nothin about the 1967-72 chevys.

Curious why you wouldn't want to stick with that era frame. If you go to a '72 frame you will have 5 bolt hubs, disk brakes, power steering, and if the trailing arms are in good shape they actually give a pretty nice ride (in my opinion). I'm doing a ground up on a '72 right now and I'm using the original frame.

Just a thought.

By the way, WELCOME TO THE 'BOLT! Now that your'e a member, you'll get hooked by the forums and you won't have time to work on your truck anyway! HAHAHAHAHA.

Ive got a 70 stepside with the 5 hole wheels & disk brakes. Rides & handles beter than some of these new ones. smile

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

What are you trying to accomplish?

The '67 - '72 frame has the same long control arm rear suspension that is still used on NASCAR race cars. That suspension has not been put on a Chevy truck since '72. The front suspension was carried over on pickups until about '87 or '88.

I'd bet with little work you could put a '69 on a '87 frame. But they aren't much different, so the question remains what are you trying to accomplish that would justify all the work?

I was told by someone that it would be a good idea because the lowering kits are cheaper, theyve got power steering, disk brakes..... but if you dont think swapping the frame is worth it then i wont do it. the guy who told me about swapping the frame swapped his 50's ford pickup onto a 1982-1993 S10 frame and he said it was an easy swap.

AAAHHHHH!!! Now it all comes out. You're information sorce is a F@RD guy! eek And also '50 era trucks are a whole different story. The reason your "friend" did a chassis swap is because he wanted all the things you mentioned, and probably independent front suspension instead of a straight axle. All things which your era Chevy already had.

Zenish is right, the only thing separating your chassis from a '71/'72 is the front suspension/brake components. And maybe your rear end (6 vs. 5 bolt hubs). Otherwise your frame rails are the same. All components can be swapped from another truck to your frame. I just think it's easier to find a different frame that's all set up. Then you can do a nice job on the chassis while it's all apart, and you don't have to mess around with moving the body.

Just depends on how indepth you want to get.

Ok, thanks for the reply I should've relized that the Ford would come with crappy stuff and therefore would need to be put on a real frame.

Well its not that Ford came with crappy stuff as much as that GM implemented some huge improvements in suspension design in the early 60's and the best of them are easy to adapt to your '69.

Some of them can be adapted to a 50's frame, but lots of guys have just swaped frames instead. The S-10 swap is popular on '47 to '54 Chevy trucks too.

I don't want to come off defending Fords, because that's certainly not who I am, but in this case the same swap is popular under both brands for basically the same reasons.

its actually cheeper and easier to lower the back of a 69.you could use lowering blocks on a later frame, but they are bad news if you go too far.i have a 1980 crossmember and drop spindles on my 64.
