Looks GREAT. Hope you don't mind, but I think i will steal your idea.

So do you have a ramp into your cellar so you can drive a truck down there and retreive the motor? Or do you take the stairs???

I'd hate to try it in my basement. First, my computer room is there and second, there's be absolutely no way to get the motor back out...although it seems like a great way to build motors in the winter. I just need a heated/air conditioned 20x40 shop next to the garage.

My cellar is in a 1850's house with a steep but wide set of walkout steps leading directly outside.A few years ago I built a 261 Chevy engine in the cellar, lowered it off the stand onto a pallet with a Come-a-Long hooked on a main floor beam.Then dragged it up the stairs on soaped planks using our Jeep.
Same way the Egyptians built the pyraminds,only they had slaves to drag heavy objects instead of a Jeep.
My so called shop is an unheated barn 300 feet from the house,too darn cold in there for engine assembly.
The stand is an oldie given to me by a friend,it's very heavy with iron castor wheels,held 4 old inline engines so far.
Adding an extension is a good idea if you suspect the stand is unstable with a long engine.
