Are Longhorn Stepsides rare, I am considering buying one as a cottage truck. It is prettty beat but still runs great. I was wondering if it is worth restoring or as I'm thinking just a cottage beater.......

Never heard of a longhorn STEPSIDE. To my knowledge the stepside boxes were either 6 or 8 footers. I would think the rarity of that era truck is determined by the options it has.

I was under the impression that the Longhorn name applied only to the nine foot (8.5') fleetside beds.

Nine foot stepsides existed before the '67-72 generation trucks. But it is difficult to find a good nine-foot stepside bed.

Remove the pickup bed, sell or save it, and mount a flatbed.

The Chevy Longhorn was produced from 68-72, a fleetside with the longer bed for use with campers, which were being built 8.5' long at the time.

The AD trucks, 48-54, were available with a 9' bed on the one ton chassis, but were not called longhorns by Chevy. There aren't many of them around, and are not a desired truck by most collectors, due to the rough ride and low gearing.

There were some C30's from 69/70 that came with a 9 foot stepside bed, but are not considered longhorns

My 71 had an 8.5 foot bed--but no badges--was a factory 1/2 ton fleetside with a heavy duty 3/4 rear end--which was marked with a factory label in the glove box. Truck was a special order for a camper rig. To my knowledge there were no stepside longhorns-- all were fleetside--these trucks were popular for those push in campers.
