Whatcha do on your Bolt this weekend? It was a fairly good one around here.

I leave John to report. Give him something to do at his lunch break.

Peg

Woogeroo Edit : this thread was started by BIG CHEVY 3600, with the topic, What did you get done on your bolt today???? on 11/28/2008. I later merged some older threads of a similar nature into that thread... the old 'weekend report' threads.

Edit Dec 2022: We had an error occur where two popular threads were accidentally merged. Who uses their truck as a truck? - 2021 and later is intact.

Too hot here to work in the garage.
Went watersking instead on Sat and high school grad for 1 niece and 2 nephews on Sunday.

Still too hot.

I did look at the truck and dust it off though.

I tore down an old barn on Saturday, worked cattle Sunday morning, then bled the brakes in the '46 Sunday afternoon.

.. spent the rest of Sunday driving the '46 around the property.

Life is good.

I spent Sunday pulling the seats and gutting the interior to find holes in the floor of the cab. frown

Crack in front of the drivers seat and holes in front of the battery lid. Hoping my neighbor, who has his own body shop can put a couple patches in there.

Looking forward to having the holes patched and then it is on to insulating the entire cab, then painting the seat frame and finishing off the interior.

Oh yes, the wife got the garden all planted.

Family went camping near Wisconsin Dells, the Dells also had there annual Automotion show.
I headed over there on Saturday. It was a fairly large show over 1000 cars and trucks. It was
overcast on Saturday for the most part. Made it nice to walk around, seen a few nice vehicles.

There was only I handful I would actually write home about. I thought trailers were for boats?

Nice weekend in Wisconsin though..

Started to help my dad clean out his shop. Found a box with 4 Stromberg 97 carburetors in it. Came home and managed to knock a hole in the radiator of my 54.

Great weather.

Overcast and pleasant Saturday morning. Rolled up the garage door, cleaned the bugs off the front of the 59 from previous weekends cruise-in to Cordele, rolled the garage door back down. Ready for next weekends local VW club event.

Finished painting the top and back of the cab in satin black. Began work on rust spots at the bottom of both doors. FINALLY got rid of the Vise-Grips I'd been using as a driver's side window crank and installed the new cranks on both doors. Used JB Weld to keep the bottom of the driver's door glass in the regulator channel. I even have a working door glass!

Installed a new clutch pedal pad...that thing has been bare metal since I got it and I finally got around to putting one on it. I'm not sure I'll know how to use it.

Found that the passenger door is hopelessly stuck shut. Pulled the inner door panel off and verified that the actuator arm is being moved by the handle. It is. Tried giving the latch a little more help with a screwdriver. Didn't work. Door is still stuck.

Ohh...and I cleaned the garage and weeded a flower garden. Not bad for an old man with a bad heart. I had to do this in 15 minute spurts, cuz I run outta breath real easily. But I'm happy that I got some stuff done.

My stovebolt is in the work mode....grain racks are being put back on so we can haul boxes. The place is sold and we start moving this week. Hopefully after June 15, I can get back to some body work.

Not much.Put new spark plugs in the 72.That right bank is really a lot of fun, with the AC unit right there and the headers hiding the plugs. Both forearms bruised up pretty good, but it runs like new.

I removed the remaining glass from the cab of my 5 window. Also, I spent some time trimming and shaping the right kick panel, getting it ready to be welded in place.

Worked hard around the house all weekend, EXCEPT for a 3 hour break on Saturday eve to take the 55.1 for a cruise to town, ice cream with the Classic Tailgaters and just hung out on the main drag for a while ;~)

Got the Terraplane ready to go to the upholstery shop (Tuesday). Took some better pics of the '46; now I need to develop them! Got my Cumminsbolt back, it has a new clutch and a rebuilt injector pump. Put the camper jack extensions on. Mowed. Watched NASCAR Saturday night. Fixed the neighbor's instrument cluster on his 'bolt. Another exciting 100+ degree weekend. cool

Saturday morning was errands. Took the '71 to the dumps with some scrap iron and dropped 5 gallons waste oil for recycling. Put racks on the '70 and started to load for dump run (rubbish). Started '56 after setting all winter in the shed. After battery was charged started right up! The two yards of sand/gravel mix in the bed had stuck solid, had to pick out about a third of it before it would dump. Moved the '39 into the shed for awhile while the '56 dump is loaded with brush and lumber waste.
Nice weather, 80's in California!

It was rainy Saturday afternoon, but I started Friday night. Unloaded and tore down the storage shelving in the garage. Got them rebuilt in a configuration that allows more storage. Was going to use the '47 to go get some sheets of 3/4" OSB but the wife wanted to go so we had to take the '89 Suburban.

Those shelves are built with a Unistrut frame, but I had to use some 2x4s to add shelf support so that I could get more shelf space. The only place in town that sells Unistrut was closed Saturday so I called them today to see what 4 sticks, 20 feet long would cost. Over $500!!! So I asked what about 80 feet in 10 foot sticks? $135! Apparently the shipping for those 20' pieces is a killer. Doesn't make sense to me, but I will probably buy a feew 10 footers to beef it up.

This is all for the purpose of getting the garage into shape for the frame-off phase of the '47 panel rebuild.

The wife decided we were going out to eat Sunday night. I only had two hours between getting home from church and leaving for that. Then she decided that we were going to sit there and visit with her girlfriend who met us for dinner. THREE HOURS!

I asked, "Why don't you bring Beth home so you girls can visit?"

"No, we won't be that long." That was an hour and a half into the deal...

I finished installing a crate engine (just a few minutes ago)in a Corvette for a friend of mine. Did I ever tell you how much I hate Corvettes?. Had some in-laws in town for the better part of a week too. That really puts a damper on progress,

Saturday morning, drove out in my '65 with my dad to pick up the wheels for his '53... he had them gettin' sandblasted and painted.

On Sunday a pal of mine put a lil rubbin' compound on my worn out paint to see what it would look like, and it actually got a little shiny. smile

Okay, new weekend whadja go on / with your truck?

John was able to get the '49 running (re-charged the battery -- it had been a tad bit cold here). But the weekend was great and he had some of the evening to diddle on the '49 1.5 ton.

Other than that, we were pretty consumed with LEAVES. We must have the biggest leaf-pile in the County.

You?

Winter Clean up mode....organized parts and put items not in use in boxes. Labled boxes so next spring I know where everything is.

Chucked the old stuff that I should never use again...like an old dist cap, wires, points, cond, etc...I will buy new spares for the glove box...

Tried to get the dash lights working last night...now that it gets dark at 4:30, its kind of tough to see the speedo....

Interesing...no heater in my truck, but the old beast stays warm when the engine warms up...I cant get used to driving with the windows up....Its not even Thanksgiving and I already hate winter....

Spent most of the day with the cluster in my lap wiring all new leads from the new gauges/blinkers. (Watching the Wildcats win their opener in a blowout!)

Rehung the headers since the new starter is in place.

Went to the parts store for stuff.

Stopped and looked at a 54 with a buddy who REALLY wants it!!! So do I, but I don't have room right now.

More to do tomorrow...

Now that the exterior of the cab has been completely stripped of paint I am wire wheeling the small surface rust areas.

Tomorrow I think I may be buying an air compressor from Sears. That should be helpfull with the remaint 20 years of the projet. Also putting a welder on the xmas list. (showing the wife the one I want)

Just a question?! Why do you ask what we've done for the weekend, at the start of the weekend?
Sorry about my anal retentavness (is that a real word?), but as you maybe can tell, thus far it has not been (a kodak moment)! or maybe it has, depending on your sadistic perspective! grin Have you ever had one of those days where everything you touch turns to dung (don't want to to be penalized 25 points!) grin grin Wellllll, today as been one of those days! I will devulge further info, as I see "what else can go wrong" type of day this ends up being!

My weekend progress... my mom and dad cleaned up the garage and now its clean! I had to work at my school doing tech setup for our christmas concert in 3 weeks, 6 hr day there. I got home to find to my surprise my cat was in for an operation. She got in a fight with my other cat and her face was all swollen and had a tempuature of over 40 degrees celcius. Then i got home and started studying and i'm on a break now so i will be getting back to my studies.

Got most of my weekend plan complete. I reassembled the front suspension on my Suburban. Ran into a problem. The threaded hole I expected to put a zerk into doesn't like me.

Tomorrow I'll pick up a tap so I can fix the #^%&* hole.

I got up early; made a cup of joe; fired up The Coupe With A Truck Block and enjoyed a nice half day taking in the Camp Pendleton CFC Car show...TCWATB too 2nd place in class, beating out a much nicer 34 2 door sedan.

There was a CHERRY 65 SWB pickup for sale... $16K, brand new restoration (30K invested, claimed by the owner), and it looked like it... 283/3ontree, leather interior.

I gave it my best shot to get my wife to buy it, for her... NO WAY, she said... darn.

I've been preparing to go on our vacation. Monday we're leaving for Bermuda for a week. With the animals my wife has collected, it takes alot of preparation to leave for a week. I can't wait, it's been years since I've gone on a real vacation. No work, no trucks, no chores, no farm, no weird weather. I'm coming back sunburnt wearing a full beard with a bigger beer gut than I have now. Gonna watch the women and waves for hours without a care in the world. Once we get there my wife can wind down and start to enjoy herself, she worries too much about things. She's triple checking our suitcase as I type. All I need is a swim suit(LOL) and hope the locals don't try pushing me back into the ocean trying to save me (fat joke). I better go see if I can get in her way,
Scott

Getting ready for winter here in Maine. Picked up a load of gravel in my '54 3600 and filled the potholes on the private dirt road I live on to get it ready for snow plowing. Next weekend though the wrenches come out, and I'm planning on stripping it to the frame for the winter body-work and painting project. Hope to have new truck in the spring - of course that might mean it just hauled it's last load of gravel wink .

My days off are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I got my sons truck running (new head), had to play with thermostats a little. Went to Sears Saturday when I got up (work midnight shift) and bought a new air compressor, 6hp/150 psi/33 gal. on sale for $299.00 with impact, socket and hammer and assories.

Junker! Come back to the light! At least we are on this side of the grass!

Had to work at the hospital yesterday, going to church, breakfast, and nap. Then finish cleaning shop to start on next project of the "ol truck". Maybe trim some bushes to start hanging a few lights also.

Got most of my Christmas wish list written down, parts and more parts. I love the putting together thing. Ben
