What absolutley does not work?
If there was a book that told me what did not work I would not have:
a. Hurt myself
b. broken a valuable part of my truck
c. Hurt myself

Seriously, I know how you are supposed to do things. I dont have a shop or all of the right tools to do everything properly.

What have you done that was an absolute mistake and did not work?

When I publish the book Ill name names.... Unless you dont want me to.

That's a great idea. Plenty of material for things that don't work. It would probably have to be narrowed down some.

Nobody's done a definitive guide on the AD trucks. I'm talking lots of photos, stock and modified, mechanical, show trucks, stats, etc. Most importantly, it should be NOTHING BUT AD trucks.

I'd love to be involved with something like that.

I don't work anymore

After 50, whatever doesn't hurt, doesn't work. After 60, everything hurts and nothing works.

Ok here is one since no one could think of any. Or would admit to any.

Spray on sripper.... sorta works. Seems to dry out while you watch. So it gets some parts very easily but anything where the metal has been roughed underneath or the paint is thick it won't touch. It does not seem to stay wet at all and is hard to put on thick.

i did try a plastic cover. It seemed like more stripper was needed still underneath. I only bought on spray can as a test since I have never tried any stripper before. It was cool so I will continue with it, but from what I have been hearing the gallon is the way to go.

Don't even bother with the aerosol crap. :p Go buy a bunch off cheap-[censored] paint brushes and a couple of gallons of liquid or gelled paint stripper.

The brand you want is called "Tal-Strip Aircraft Stripper." You should be able to find it at a well-stocked local auto body supply store. A few years ago, I helped a buddy strip the crappy original paint off of his Olds Cutlass. Two guys, a couple gallons of Tal-Strip and we had it done in a couple of hours.

Use thick rubber gloves, maybe a respirator mask and keep your workspace WELL VENTILATED!

Removing and replacing the cylinder head by yourself doesn't work. I did it and my back hurt for two weeks.

Unloading a short block 350 onto a 3 wheel sitting stool. Crushes 3 wheeler, walk bent over for a week. Do not try at home.

O.K., here's one for ya.

DON'T try to disassemble parts that aren't meant to come apart. The temptation is there to take something apart to the bare bones to clean it and make it look pretty/work mint again, but if you don't have the right tools (OR skill level) you shouldn't be doing it.

I've done this several times the past few weeks while picking away at the dashboard for my Honda. For some odd reason, there's several parts which the screws hold them perfectly fine, but they glue the stuff together, too!

Good thing this car came with lots of spare parts...

OK well as I put earlier the spray stripper is a waste of time. I bought some in a 1 gallon can and Whew! Huge difference. As soon as I opened the can I was nearly knowcked over by the smell. The spray stuff did not smell at all. (inicator of strenght?)
and guess what? The paint and light areas of filler were removed easily. Buy the gallon stuff way more effective.

Pretty cool. Lots to more do!

What is with this AD bias here? It seems like everyone lives and breathes them... I think they are boxy and ugly... now.. take my Fatfendered 39 SS!!!! that is a classy looking truck.

Oh yes, This can be called "Dumb things not to do for Dummies" Kind of a twist on words, because if you read the book, you won't be a dummie doing dumb things. A dummie already did it!

I'm with Norse--best trucks have curved windshields. There are, of course, AD trucks with curved windshields--bias is prolly because most people really like em-- I never thot of em as boxy but compact and eyecatching--quintessential truck. Deco and late thirties trucks are ok but those cabs are pretty small--a little too intimate and a lotta work today to make them streetable.

Things not to do, "When disassemling your box, don't try to save the nuts and bolts, instead of loosening them, tighten them until they break and [censored] can the parts."
