HELLLLLLLP!

Yes, I am in carburetor hell. I very carefully laid out on a sheet of white paper all the parts I took off my carb, in the same order that the shop manual shows them in the exploded view... well....while I was blowing out the passages in the carb, I must blew a spring off the table and it is hopelessly lost somewhere in the garage! I also lost the only spring in the rebuild kit that might be able to replace the original lost spring. (this is very embarrassing...)

I lost the power valve assembly spring, which is shown in the 1965 shop manual on page 6M-12 in the exploded view as part of group 11. I am rebuilding a Rochester Model B manual choke.

Question: Is this spring included in the rebuild kit? The old spring did not match exactly the spring I lost from the kit. The original has straight sides, and the kit spring tapers down at both ends (I have the KEM brand kit).

Question: if the power valve spring is not included in the rebuild kit, where can I get a power valve spring?

Question: I found a spring that fits in the assembly, but will it work?

This is so ridiculous... any help would be appreciated....

Jerry

I wish I had an extra, but a method I use to find small lost parts is to stretch pantyhose over the shopvac tube or floor attachment and vacuum away..., checking them frequently. Probably want to take them off your wife first tho grin

That spring is in the Jiffy kit that Chevy Duty sells for 12.95.

I appreciate your help to this carb-rebuildin' fool, who in retrospect shouldn't have been doing it in the middle of the night...

my garage floor is pretty dirty, but I might have to try the vac/nylon trick... or order another kit and ride my bike for the weekend--heck, I owe a debt to the environment anyway...

Also I might ask a local carb shop if they have a spring I can buy for a buck or twenty.

Jerry

thanks for

Is that the spring under the power valve, that raises it when vacuum drops? If so, I've probably got a few spare ones. That carb was one we used for training several years ago, and I've got the training carbs stashed away somewhere in the school shop. Email me!

Hey Jerry, don't feel so all alone! I've done the same thing...those springs can end up bouncing all over the place. Small ball bearings can be real tricky too, like the ones sometimes used in carbs and automatic transmissions.

Next time go to the 5 and dime and get a cheap white towel to lay out the parts. Might not stop it from blowing away but I don't think you will make that mistake agian. At least it will keep the small parts from rolling away when you bump the work bench. Next get your self a really strong magnet. I got a magnetic pick up tool for my son when we rebuilt the roof to my garage. He just loved to go out and "Do His Job" of picking up lost/dropped nail.

Good luck
