I am down to the point of recovering the seat in my '51 GMC 3/4, and my upholstery guy says that he cannot match the original material. I have noticed several reupholstery kits in different places and was wondering if anyone has used one these and just how original looking they are.This is a complete frame off restore.

Jim Carter says that he matches the originals. However, you are right to ask if anyone has used a 1951 kit that was good.

I have not seen a 1951 GMC kit.

For what it is worth, I have a '54 1/2 ton, and I recovered my seat (still have the seat back to do) with Jim Carter's Spanish Grain Brown kit. My truck had some of the original covering left on it, and it is a pretty decent match. I'd post a picture, but I never seem to have my camera handy when I work on the truck. I can't speak to your '51 GMC.. so hope this helps.

From what i understand, you should use JC's Spanish Grain Maroon with the french stitch on the '51 GMC. I used it on my '51 and thought it came out very good. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1538703150032470346MtcFzF

I checked out Jim Carter and I also need the Spanish Grain Brown, thanks for the info, hope to be able to post some pictures when I have finished.
