For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Want to buy one of those "original looking" firewall pieces from one of the online folks.(I have seen them all) I think some are figerglass and some are cardboard or rubber or? they do look orig and seems like they will fit nice. Just want to know your actual experience with these and what type is best and where you got it? thanks

I got it from Brother's. So far, I'm happy with it, though it does have a couple of issues that did give ma a little trouble. First, it isn't flexible, so it was somewhat cumbersome to install. I also had issues with fastening it, as the factory style clips wouldn't work with it due to the rigidity and a slight bit more thickness than OE. I ended up using 1/4 x 20 screws and nuts to fasten it down. There's one more thing, at the bottom, it doesn't lay flat, so the floormat actually has to be tucked under it in the middle. Otherwise, it's actually a decent product. It's issues aren't really too bad to deal with, and it does it's job (dampening the noise and heat) rather well.

Did you buy the push in type fasteners kit from them? Are they the ones that were too short? If they were I may just get some longer ones at Ace. Let me know. Also do you think that if I do not fasten it down and run it for a few weeks, would the heat "flatten out" the bottom problem? Would like to hear other stories from others who have bought Firewall pads. Thanks

Love the quality and look.

I never got any fasteners, because I still had a few of the originals. I don't think that it'll flatten out, be better off going ahead and attach it. I'd suggest the 1/4 20 machine screws over the original fasteners, if you dont mind a non original look. I used stainless button heads for a nicer look from the under hood side of the firewall.
