are there paint codes for like dupont paint for the interior for a 52 chevy pickup? I believe it was supposed to be champenge but is there a dupont #?

where you located? how far down 110? I'm right near costco on 110, also 2.5, you need parts or got parts? I got quite a bit of extra stuff sitting here, if your looking for anything.

Dan, I checked the color bulletin for my '53 and I don't know if this will help you or not. For interior colors, they list several. The mast jacket and gear shift assembly are gray and they give a Duco code number of 246-70811. The instrument panel on all models except Suburban is called a sheen gray metallic. Duco code number is 202-81407. When I painted my interior, I went with champaign color paint that is supposed to be the same as the original interior. It was a Sherwin Williams brand Acrylic Enamel and I got it from Jim Carter or from Chevy Duty (can't remember which). It went on very smoothe. I didn't do the steering column in something different. I sprayed the whole interior the same. I think if you were to give the above number to a NAPA store, they could match it for you as well. Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that the paint I bought for the interior was for '47 through '53, so your interior for the '52 should be the same color.

With the information that you provided above, I can now add the following:

The only information I had about the steering mast jacket, and 3-speed gear shift, was that gray was used on Panels and Suburbans (I had no information on standard cabs):

Dupont : 93-70811

I just shot some of the PPG DIU 3550 Lt Briar Brown 83-84 GM interior paint on my seat frame, a nice match to the Champagne color. Used the Urethane Omni, sprayed on nice and two coats, it's looking great!

I just recently tried to get this PPG 31104 formula from PPG themselves. They tell me it is not a number they can find. Maybe the lady there was wrong ? I checked with our local Carquest too, who is a PPG handler, and they do not see it.
I called the PPG color dept. and no luck. I think this would be a great original color, IF found. It just sound right, like the interior color should be, but ......if you guys did get some actually mixed, or made, can you tell me just what you did ?

I sure would love that Sheen Gray, I bet it would be very authentic !

Tim, for your info. My 51 1/2 ton had the Mast jacket & Gear shift painted gray.

In the "Paint & Body Shop" forum, Denny Graham has reported that he contacted the PPG Color Library (new phone number) and they gave him an "offset formula". Denny posted that he has not yet sprayed the paint.

Have you guys contacted the PPG Color Library? I have had no luck with local PPG dealers or jobbers but I have had 100% success getting offset formulas for all 1954 exterior and interior colors from the PPG Color Library. I take those formulas to the local PPG dealers and jobber and get the paints mixed locally.

Here is what Denny posted:

"I contacted the PPG color library Tim. The number has changed to 1-800-647-6050. Asked for an offset for the Ditzler 31104 listed on the chart. The lady told me that she would have to make up a formula for that and would email it to me. She had to make it up in DBU and from what I understand with out the clearcoat that's DUI.

I got the email an hour or so later, a series of numbers, colors and proportions. I called it in to the dealer an hour away then me and the dog drove down to pick up another qt. of DBU/DUI.

The tint looks right in the can, that's all I can say right now. I haven't had a chance to spray any samples yet.

OK guys, no since in botherin' the PPG color library, here is what she sent me. I have an asthmatic in the house and have been waiting for good weather so I can open the garage door and do some spraying out side. So I haven’t sprayed it yet, but in the can it looked real close.
Ditzler 31104 offsets to PPG 27467. If you contact your PPG dealer he should be able to mix that in DBU/DIU or in Omni.

I don't have much to add here, I got tired of trying paint code after code trying to find the "right" color. So I got the Champagne paint from Chev's of the 40's. It is correct for 47 to 53. It is a flat low sheen gray/brown color. After it dries and sits for a couple of days if you squint you eyes, and cock your head just so, it looks pretty close to what I remember. It maybe could a hint of pink to the mix, but it is close. Just an idea, why do they call it Champagne? I have a passion for the bubbly, and have seen it from water clear to deep straw color. If anything came out of a bottle the color of that paint I would certainly think twice before sampleing it. LOL Jimmie.
