| | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 100 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 100 | There's this soft coil spring and washer that is living temporarily in the parking brake boot of my 49 GMC 1/2-T pickup. (That way I don't lose it.) The spring is a helical coil about an inch wide and maybe 1-1/2 inch long. I found them between top of the steering column and the chrome & rubber hotrod wheel I took off the column.
I've got a stock AD wheel but am uncertain where the spring and washer go. The steering wheel has a spring-loaded plunger that will make contact with the upper column bearing for the horn relay. I thought the spring and washer most likely hold up the horn button until it's pressed. Can't find no exploded drawings and my guess work usually only makes more real work.

The spring goes under the steering wheel ( between the upper steering shaft bearing and the steering wheel) the washer goes on top of the wheel and hosn button retainer and the nut holds every thing tight.

The spring goes under the steering wheel ( between the upper steering shaft bearing and the steering wheel) the washer goes on top of the wheel and horn button retainer and the nut holds every thing tight.
