I have decided to replace my warped, stained cardboard door panels with 1/8" masonite. ( I really wanted to use 3/32" black ABS but could not find it locally and shipping was double the cost of material )

The masonite looks like it will work fine...just a little trimming around the edge to fit trim strips. Although the brown color would be fine, I want to paint or stain it another shade of brown. Question is....what would hold up better, paint or stain?? Would prep be the same? scuff with a little sandpaper?

i don't think that masonite will take stain, you might try luan. it can be gotten at the big box stores. btw i bought orginal door panels for about ten dollars plus shipping. also check out www.roddoors.com. ron

Blue 50, Just finished my door panels this past week. I milled a piece of solid wood down to 3/32" for the panel. Still had to chip out the back where the door handle operates to make it work OK. We covered it with whisper vinyl, wife embroidered some flames on it. You can see them on the photobucket site posted on the bottom. Frank
