( I really wanted to use 3/32" black ABS but could not find it locally and shipping was double the cost of material  ) The masonite looks like it will work fine...just a little trimming around the edge to fit trim strips. Although the brown color would be fine, I want to paint or stain it another shade of brown. Question is....what would hold up better, paint or stain?? Would prep be the same? scuff with a little sandpaper?

I milled a piece of solid wood down to 3/32" for the panel. Still had to chip out the back where the door handle operates to make it work OK.
