Good looking engine, until I saw that orange oil filter.

Great looking engine! I was thinking of also of installing the offy intake. What size carb are you using? Keep the pictures coming.

Advise well taken on the filter, Fred T.

I'll be using a new Edelbrock 500 cfm, 4 barrel carburetor. I've been told that it's a bit too large for a stock cam, so it will probably be jetted down some for optimum use. The engine is .060 over, which yields 301 ci so I don't expect any major problems with the Edelbrock.

The headers required some work - some bending with the hammer on the #1 & #2 exhaust, and quite a bit of grinding down the flanges in order for the intake manifold to fit and bolt up just right.

The only thing I'm missing for optimum performance is a mild cam, which I revisiting for the second time.

I found that on the 67-72 board recently. Really opened my eyes because Fram used to be one of the best filters on the market. Passed it around here at work and all the engineers were as astounded as I was. eek I had wondered why they could sell their filters for so cheap, and it seemed that when someone came out with a lower priced filter, Wal-Mart met the price across the board.

Holy Cow, Batman, we better get the Batmobile in for an oil change, quick! grin

Yes, I have two vehicles that are sensative to oil filter quality, my BMW and my Miata. The BMW has an oil cooler that requires the antidrainback valve on the filter to work right. Otherwise it drains and it takes too long for the oil pressure to come up. I use either Wix or Purolator filters on that car.
The miata has 16 valves with hydraulic lash adjusters and they get noisy if the filter doesn't filter enough or the antidrainback valve doesn't function. Again, Wix, Purolator, Mobil1, or OEM only for that car. The fram filter I tried also dropped the oil pressure too much (the car has a very accurate gauge).

On the other hand, in a 216, 235, or 261 any oil filter is better than none so fram is probably ok.

What do you think about the fake stainless/aluminum water pump and upper thermostat housing? Quite a paint job, eh. wink
