I read a quick past topic about this, but it was rather unresolved. Does anybody know what to do with the 41 steering wheels? What color do they go back. I agree it isn't the interior color, but it isn't black either. Almost sort of a fleshy color or at least at 66 yrs old it is.

I could be totally out to lunch on this, but I thought the 41-46 had a tan to nearly flesh color (more to the tan side). One of the window cranks in my 39 is that color and the person who owned it before me claimed it to be off a 42.

I'm not an expert on this, but from what I can find, the 39-42 is tanish. I have a 41 and a 42 that have tan wheels. I have 3 46's with black and I'm pretty sure they are correct. So I guess the war marked the change of the color...but is there any specific paint for the tan ones, or just a individual guess?

I'll really confuse the issue here. My 39 interior has a black knob on the drivers side, a black steering wheel, and a black knob for the headlights. The passenger side has the tan knob. I'm pretty sure that black was the color for 39.

According to the Chevrolet Pickup Buyers Guide the steering wheel color was changed from Black to 'Goodwood Beige' in 1940.

That is interesting the they were black before the beige...but at least now I have the color. Thanks for the help!

Tomcoe, I matched the original tan pretty well with a paint from Chevs of the 40s called pearl beige. I think they list this color for a later year truck but I'm happy with the color. You can see for yourself in the gallery, Jim Merritt's 46.
You'll want to talk to them now to see if the paint is still available, it's been 15 years since this paint job.
