There is no difference in the procedure. Look for that in the Tech Tips area of this web site. The amount of adjustment is different. The tip will give you the info you need.

In the Chevy garage I worked in during the 50's there were mechanics who adjusted them running and those who did it the other way. Each claimed their method was superior. I have always done it with the engine running because it's quicker. Never had any problems with lots of miles on 216's and 235's. | | |

No oil to contend with, and to jerking around as you try to adjust them. Smooth and easy. Personally, I think I can adjust them without the engine running quicker than with it running. To each his own, I reckon.

Loud, messy, and difficult. Several years ago, I started adjusting lash on a warm engine, not running. It is almost too easy. Line up the #1 cylinder, adjust half the valves; rotate the crank 360 degrees, adjust the other half of the valves - techniques are posted in the tech section, in old discussions in the forum, and on other websites. | | |

It is made by the same company that invented the colortune glas spark plugs. Setting valves it`s a peace of cake with this tool.
