iam about to take my first carbuerator and would like any hint and tips ya'll might have.

Study the parts blowup that comes with the rebuild kit very closely. Make sure you know exactly where each part goes before you start taking it apart. When you take it apart, put like things together. For example, if there's four screws that hold the top on, put those four screws together in one pile. Use a white towel or old white t-shirt to put the parts on and lay them out in an organized fashion so you can find things as you put the carb back together.

Use carb spray and spray all the little passages in the body. Clean the carb really good. And finally, make sure you adjust everything as precisely as you can; float level, float drop, choke rod settings if it has them. Don't lose any of the check balls, and mark down where each one goes.

If you have a friend who's done this before, keep him nearby.

and use eye protecion with spray carb cleaner or blowing out the carb with air pressure and avoid to much skin contact with chemical cleaners can't be too safe good luck

compare the drawing that comes with the rebuild kit and note any differences as you are taking the carb apart . . . the time to discover your working with something a little different is not when you are trying to match up parts that you have that look nothing like the parts in the picture. You might have to get creative to actually use all the pieces up when putting it back together.

I like to take 'em apart and save the leather pump. Then put 'em into my own 'lil hot tank with hot water and a dash of tsp. Next day pour off the gunk and dry out parts they is clean and ready for rebuild. The tsp is a lot safer and cheaper than the toxic stuff in the spray cansz....

As a newbie at carb repair and just finishing mine yesterday, my tip would be when ever you remove stuff from inside the carb , take the inner nuts and screws off slowly.I found out the hard way that there was a spring in the one and took forever to find that little ball that went a rolling .

OH- by the way Slow rider, watch out for that little spring with the ball that can get away from you.-LOL There is no substitute for OJT. Glad to hear that you were alert.
