How important is that brown (very dusty) insulation right up under the dash? Can it be replaced, with neater, cleaner material? Or can it be done away with completely?

You could remove it but you'll experience heat and noise from the engine bay and road. ABS plastic or fiberglass replacements are available from vendors. Steer clear of the cheap rubber ones.

I scraped all of it off & glued down that gray jute pad that is under auto carpet. brian | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 | Jute material is a good replacement, available at fabric stores that cater to upholstery shops. Maybe even the one sided foil backed insulation material available at auto parts houses. Use 3M spray on glue.
