Hi fellow bolters! I need some help. I have never had something that should be simple be so hard to do! I am trying to install a repro glovebox in my 49 AD. I don't seem to know what lip the box sides fit over or under. I have messed with it for the last hour, and have all but torn it up. I know I have installed one in another AD before, but it's been several years ago. I didn't remember it being so hard to figure out. Amy advice would be appreciated!

The cardboard box fits inside the opening and then a trim piece goes over the top to "pinch" it in place. I just removed mine to fix my mirrors.

Hey Shipwright! My best buddy lives in Grand Jct.
He drives a truck to Denver and back for Saia Motor Freight.
So your saying that all of the box fits in the opening, none of it fis under either the top or bottom lip. Is this correct? And I know the trim peice your refering to. It is very thin! I thought it probably should fit like that, but it sure fit tight, and seemed that when the bottom holes were lined up, the box was angled upward, but maybe not. I will try it again.

Ok Shipwright, I have the cab of my wife's 50 1/2 ton in the garage (were doing a frame up on it). I put the glove box in it. When you have the bottom of the box out taward the seat, so the holes line up, the top is too far back. I know it probably don't make sense.

Is it level that way? Is it hitting anything? Upside down maybe. You want me to take a picture of my 49 box to compare? I'll have to email it to you. Lemme know.

I got the glovebox from Chevy Duty. It is supposed to be a 47-49. In the Jim Carter Catalog, they actually refer to the early 49 having the metal band that fits in the inside opening. I may have to get one from Jim Carter.
It seemed to be level. I had the slot for the lock on the top. And there isn't anything in the way on my wife's cab. I have it stripped out, ready to go to the media blaster. In my 49, there wasn't anything in the way either. I don't know!!
I will keep fooling with it until I get it figured out. I am going to have to get a new box anyway since I have kinda messed it up a bit.
If you don't mimd, I would appreciate a picture. Just when you get a chance. Please don't go to any trouble.

Thanks Nolan. KT, I didn't know earlier and later 49 were different. Mine has the trim piece and the box went in OK from the front if that helps any. I'll take a pic after I get the little one to bed.
