Hello everyone. This is my first post but I feel that I know everyone as I have been viewing for a long time. You guys are awesome.
Now to my question. I have been trying to find out the true interior color of my 57 3100. I have done searches and looked at galleries of pictures. The best I can determine is that it is supposed to be a beige kind of color. But I have also seen a dark tan used in possibly 58 and 59. The PO did a driveway rebuild many years ago so I'm not sure what is correct. When I open the glove box it is the darker tan color in there. What about the dash? Were they all painted black? My truck is just a standard basic model. If anyone knows for sure can you let me know? The correct color numbers would sure help as I am going to try to get started on a rebuild of "RT" very soon. He is a very special family member loved very much by my whole family.

tan?? black?? never seen a TF truck that was other than a silvery gray, w/ darker gray on top the dash and on the steering column and floor - what color is your steering wheel? the wheel, column, signal cup, column-to-dash mount, floor and steps are all the same darker gray - top of dash is similar but a non glare [sort of eggshell] finish [the darker color is called "charcoal" tho it's not real black], the rest of the dash, inside the doors, posts, back wall are all a gray called "Marble Gray" - there were some 8-9 trucks, not 57, with the beige interior, but uncommon I think, maybe an option - look behind the gas tank where there's likely to still be some factory paint

don't think you'll find modern number equivelent, but the marble gray was Duco lacquer # 73604, charcoal has no number I've ever found - Jim Carter Truck Parts has some that should be pretty close , and other suppliers that have paint may have it as well

I do not have '57 Dupont chips but here are interior color codes for '56 and '58 (I have chips for the interior colors that wewre also used as exterior colors - they are marked with an *):

Welcome aboard Kevin. As Red58 says the steering column is a darker shade of gray. The original dash covering was gray and had a dull dimple/pimple finish to it in order to cut down on the glare. Not sure on your 57 but my 59 interior color was/is what is commonly called Champagne. Kind of a gold tan/brown color with a hint of metallic to it. This subject has been discussed many times before and if I am not mistaken the paint is available from a couple of the vendors. You may want to do a search on the subject for further info and vendors.

Thanks to all. My cab interior is all one color and my steering wheel is black. So it sounds like it has been changed significantly from orignal. I know Chevy Duty sells a cab interior color but from what you are telling me I need to use two colors. I will digest this info and try to get it right. My exterior is supposed to be Cardinal red and something close is on it now. As usual you guys are the best. I will post a pic soon.

I spent many hours on this for my 1959. Jim Forbes (occasionally seen around the bolt) convinced me that the top of the dash originally was not painted black in the TF trucks at the factory but was commonly painted black either at the dealer or by the owner early on due to the glare factor. He had a couple of original example interiors with pictures to make his point, not a black dash top in the lot!

The actual factory interior color names for my '59 is Comanche Gold Metallic (DUCO 92863) and Charcoal Gray (DUCO 73605). I was not able to find a modern paint code for the Comanche Gold, so instead I went with Jim Carter's PT 150 Silver Beige. However, I believe it is an exact match to the original Comanche Gold Metallic. As far as the Charcoal Gray, it still is in the system today and both Dupont and PPG can match it.

I believe in 1957, the lighter gray listed as Concord Gray Metallic (DUCO 91623) would the correct color for all of your interior EXCEPT, the floor, step wells, steering column, steering wheel, parking brake, and the top of your dash which should be the Charcoal Gray (DUCO 73605). You could also use Jim Carter’s PT 114 Light Gray for the light gray color if you can’t find it in the system. I hear it is a good match for the original as well.

An interesting side note, Jim Carter's gray engine paint is almost an exact match to the interior Charcoal Gray. We used a bit to touch up a small scratch for fun as the truck was headed back over to the paint shop, and when it dried, we couldn't believe how good it looked. I am not suggesting this as an alternative to the Charcoal Gray, but just thought it was a nice tidbit to share.

Also, on the first link above, note the pictures and narrative regarding the proper paint line delineations for the two colors at the doors, floor and dash. Jim Forbes posted some very good pictures of his original trucks for me to use as a guide. That was very helpful for our truck.

hmmm, kinda what I said, except the Duco paint chips for 57 show the light gray as Marble gray [as Tim cites for 56] w/ the number being 73604, and lists no # for the charcoal!

"commonly painted black"? I've seen a lot of unmolested TF trucks, and never seen any that was 'black' on top the dash, but the charcoal color the factory used does start looking like faded black after 40 years or so, and I can't imagine that flat or eggshell finish they used would give any glare, whereas gloss black definitely would

on this truck the column, shifter, pedal arms, wheel and hand brake are the original charcoal - the pedal arms and hand brake 'look' black, but are the same dark gray - the rest is my choice

Yes, you are correct I should have listed the Marble Gray (DUCO 73604) instead of the Charcoal color as his truck is a 1957 not a 1959, my bad!. I believe the color and code for the lighter gray I cited - Concord Gray Metallic (DUCO 91623) is - right for 1957.

On the Black dash top I also agree with you. Here is what I wrote:

". . .convinced me that the top of the dash originally was not painted black in the TF trucks. . .at the factory . . ."

I said it is NOT painted black at the factory.

Thanks Jim. It's ironic that I happen to be reviewing your website and those exact pages that you listed above. Thanks to you and Red58 for setting me staight. You have solved a mystery that I have been trying to clear up for several years and now I even know the correct color numbers. Now I move on to the correct engine color supposedly green according the chart I have seen on this website. This may be the wrong forum for that though. Thanks to you all again. The stovebolt site is kind of a stress reliever for me. I have been very stressed by work lately and I find a world of good people ready to help here.
