Hi all,
Has anybody used either one of these products under carpet? Im installing a rubber mat over carpet. Would extra sound deadeding be overkill?

Another thing is that I have 6 by 9's in the doors and they rattle pretty bad. Ive tryed spraying a few coats of that rubberized/asphalt undercoating inside the doors a week or so apart and it doesnt seem to be helping. any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Justin

I wonder if your rattle might be the speaker mounting. Putting some rubber grommets or rubber gasket between the speaker and the mounting area could fix this problem.

If this isn't the source of the rattle, it might be the window and other components rattling from the speaker vibration.

I put the asphalt-based mat (Q-Mat I think was the name) on the floor area over the transmission hump from front to rear. This really reduced the drivetrain noise considerably.

make sure your doors have good seals with a heavy plastic as well. like on the new cars. as far as floor you can either get some sound deadener or even some cheap carpet with a rubber backing and putthat under the finished carpet

look at alan horvath's site. he has some very good suggestions. i used waterheater insulation with the foil backing it is a lot cheaper than the commercial stuff. you can use quick roof patching material from the home improvement stores. another product is peel and seal. ron

Thanks for the replys guys,
The speakers are mounted inside of a foam enclosure that shares the speaker mounting holes. I am redoing the window felt/guides and catwiskers so im sure that'll make a difference as well. I was thinking of trying some polyester filling kinda like the stuff they use in sleeping bags to fill in the big empty space inside the doors.

On the floors and firewall I got a lot of real nice scrap carpeting for the right price (FREE!) So Im figuring Ill use that and maybe put "fatmat" underneith. It is pretty inexpensive about 60 bucks for 50 square feet or something. Only thing is I cant use it inside the doors after spraying on that "sound deadener"

I used peel and seal roofing product. it is a modified bituim with a aluminium foil face. It is about 60 bucks for a 100 sq ft roll. This will stop druming. Over top of this i put a insulating product that is a double layer of bubble wrap with foil on both sides. I think it should work quite well

the Alanhorvath site has some great info. Has any body used spray foam in any of the cavities in the cab. There are a lot of closed areas in a cab and I was thinking to drill a hole in the cavities and fill with foam.

that couldn't hurt, just make sure to seal up the hole you drilled.
