I want to put new windows and felt tracks in the doors of my '54 Chevy pickup truck ... I've heard some guys complain about kits that are a pain to install ... anyone know where I can get the BEST kits from?
Thanks!

I've heard good things about Steele Rubber products but have not used them yet. Welcome to the stovebolt page The lounge is a good source for info too

So far, it looks like LMCtruck has the best kit ... a pal over at Hotrodders.com put one in and said he was very happy with it. SoffSeal is definitely the best way to go for weatherstripping -- only they don't supply any Chevy's earlier than 1955, so, again, LMC Truck will be my choice.

Hey Bob, do you have any tips to pass along on where to start? Or, what not to do? I do have my trusy manual, but first hand experience would be great to fall back on.

I ordered all my stuff this week ... should be installing it all next week, and I'll be posting pics, etc. at my site when I'm done.
When are you doing yours?

I see them for a 51> (Chevy Duty 03-917/918) with wing windows, but I am using the one piece windowed door, it was rusted away, I have peiced together but would like to replace. Zeke

I used Chevy Duty products. It was fairly easy to do. You basically rip out the old and bend in the new. On my truck the old window channels had staples/clips holding them to the window frame, plus a few scews. I couldn't figure out how to duplicate the staples and wound up just bending the felt channels into place and securing with the screws. It worked fine. You bend to shape best you can, then roll up the window to finish the form fit, back the window down and put in the screws. Of the restoration projects on my truck it was one of the easiest and most satisfying - it worked the first time and didn't require any swearing.
Good luck, Dave
Don't read the directions, that'd be too easy.

Hoping to tackle this in the next 3-4 weeks. I need a sunny day as the truck is not garaged. I am also trying to get the outside handle off as it just swings in the wind but it will not budge. Pictures would be great! Short term I have small pieces of cardboard wedged on either side of the glass to keep it from chattering.

I had to remove the vent window ... didn't expect that! But it was easy enough ... had to fight a little to get it past the door window (carefully), but it came out fairly easily. Then I discovered that spring & screw you can see below it ... there's a hole in the door panel to get to it when the vent window is in. I never knew that thing existed, and my passenger-side vent window was loose -- it would blow closed while driving -- so I was real happy when I saw that little bugger! "Oh! I can tighten up the vent window!" Removing it was the only way I could install the felt channel for that part, and it also made it possible to remove the door window, which made it much easier to install the other felt channel. RE-POPS was the brand I got -- NICE stuff! With the vent window IN place, it's a good idea to make a mark on the door with a marker, of the exact point where the felt channels meet. Then remove the vent window ... replace the felt channel there ... remove the door window and replace the felt channel there ... then replace thedoor window ... then replace the vent window << take your time there and watch what you're doing -- it's a bit tricky. Not bad! It took me 4 hours to do both doors -- I go slow and careful when I'm doing anything I've never done before.
