For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 117 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 117 | Does anyone recognize this tilt column? I traded a gauge cluster for it. It came out of a '65 Chevy truck and it's clearly aftermarket. I just don't know who made it. Why do I care? Because I wouldn't mind picking up new turn signal switch stuff for it, as it's kinda oxidized after sitting unused for awhile. It doesn't look like an ididit column, nor does it look like Flaming River's stuff. Any leads are appreciated. :-) | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 | You named the largest aftermarket companys around. It still could be one of them. If it's an old model it may not look like what they have on the market today. Here's an idea. You might try sending both companys the pictures you posted here and see if they can recognize it. Tell them what you need and they may come up with something. Seems like they might know what the competition looks like. And if nothing else, they might have the switch assembly I need even if it's not theirs. I'm sure the switch is just off-the-shelf, but without knowing which "shelf" it came from.... | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 328 Member | | Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 328 | Is it oxidized or brushed aluminum? Cant tell, it could be either in the picture The oxidation I was talking about is on the switch stuff under the ... well, I don't know what it's called -- the star-shaped piece under the snap ring that on stock columns provides the locking mechanism -- it's rusted. You really can't see it in the pictures. I haven't taken it apart to see how bad it is, but if it has any rust at all I want to replace it. Hank @ ididit is pretty sure it's a Brookville Roadsters column. I was only able to find one picture of their column online, and it was a small line drawing in a PDF from a catalog page, but it does look similar. I emailed the picture links to Brookville and hope they'll have an answer for me soon. :-) | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 117 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 117 | Originally posted by 64fleetside: Look like the 73-87 GM truck signal switch to me, I've had a bunch apart. Brian That's great info -- thanks! Maybe I'll pull it apart sometime today and take it to the guys at NAPA. If I at least have an idea of where to start, it might be easier to match up. I just don't want to ask them to pull all of their switches off the shelf just for me to paw through and try to match. | | |
