Am new to this forum, and look forward to talking trucks! I am in the process of having a '56 Chev. 3100 Stepside restored to NEAR original condition. Had a 'good' truck to start with, will have a much 'better' truck when finished! The truck will go back to it's original color of "Jet Black" or "Oynx Black" as I believe it was called. My question concerns the seat covering. It's currently a Black vinal (don't think that's original). I would like to recover in a grey or similar color cloth that would be NEAR the original fabric. I believe the Cameo and Deluxe trucks had the cloth interior, and mine is just the standard model. I definately prefer the cloth fabric over the vinal. Any ideas on fabrics for the seat covering? Any sites out there that show colors of seat interiors for the '56? Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. I'm not an interior historian, but others will be able to add researched responses. Lots of help here.

I'm rebuilding a '51 and the seat I pulled had a thick synthetic material like vinyl that may have been aftermarket, but I think it was original or from the same era. Don't count vinyl out just yet.

One option is to look at parts distributors listed at the Stovebolt Link for Interior Parts for a supplier that can help with materials and info.

Thank you for providing me with the information you did. I did check out those sites you mentioned, and appreciate you bringing the links to my attention. With my truck, I'm not going to be entirely original (the route most people go I guess), so call it NEAR original. I am doing things to the truck like moving the tank to the cross rails with filler in bed, installing seat belts and electric windshield wiper motor, you know, that stuff that makes the truck safe enough to haul my grandkids in. As far as the seat goes, I really prefer the cloth over the vinal (darn HOT here in Virginia in the summer!!) with no air conditioning (even though that is one thing I might add at a later date). I'm having the truck professionally restored by an individual that is VERY particular with the work he does (but guess that's what a person wants with a project like this!).
