Getting ready to install a three speed with overdrive in my "59" Apache. The bell housing is set up with two dowels and two bolts but I see that the bottom of the overdrive unit has two 7/16" bolt holes for a crossmember. The rub is that I don't have a crossmember in my truck. What gives?

those little ears w/ holes are for other applications - the OD trans just hangs off the bell housing like the regular trans

i have a overdrive in a 67 chevelle what it dose is the gearing stays the same but when you let off the gas its like pushing the clutch in and you coast then when you give it the gas it grabs and you go saving gas all other overdrives ive seen were a higher gear this one took me a while to figure out it was a 600. option in 1967 on a chevelle 300

Does not sound like your overdrive is working. This page will tell you how it should work and how to repair it. Use the back button at the bottom of the page for more info.
Borg Warner overdrive
'67 should have a full syncro 3spd Saginaw. If you can locate a 4spd Saginaw, that OD unit will bolt to the back of it with very few modifications. That will give you 8 forward gears instead of the 6 you should now have. The 4spd looks just like the 3spd, but it has three shift arms on the side cover instead of two.
