Subject truck : ‘54 (series 1) 3100
Recently my drivers side window dropped down abruptly and it ain’t coming back up. The window components are original and heavily worn , so replacement seems in order rather than repair. I’ve read that some repros need tooling and adjustment to work properly , and I wish to avoid that. What is the best source for a window regulator for my truck?

Addendum: Window regulators is one of those jobs I was hoping to avoid for the balance of my tenure. How difficult a job is it to replace the entire mechanism?

MY guess is that the button on the end of the arm has slipped out of the channel on the bottom of the window. If you can still feel the regulator moving inside the door, then it may just need a new roller and rivet. LINK The original ones are some kind of fabric based material and disintegrate over the many years till all that's left is the rivet, which can slip out of the channel.

Thanks for the tip on that component. I’ll open up that door in a few weeks when the truck goes into winter storage and check for that. Given the overall worn up condition of the original regulator , including rounded off grooves on crank handle post , I am still inclined to replace the whole smear. (there - I dated myself by using that last word)

I got my replacment window regulators from Classic Parts. Nothing special about the source other than price when compared to the other typical sources.

I did end up getting new window handles from the same source because old handles and new regulators don't appear to play well together.
