The 2004 rear end came from a salvage yard truck that had been there for a few years. Before I put it on the road I would like to replace the gear oil. I find no plug by which to drain it, and the owners manual in my 2007 truck just says if it leaks, repair it. How can I drain it without removing the cover?

Loosen the bottom few bolts and let it drain.

Or, can you suck it out of the filler hole?

You could always add a drain plug in the cover after you remove it.
