The Stovebolt Site Forums Swap Meet Truck Parts For Sale Engine or parts

I have the engine removed from my 1950 3600 truck that I am going to sell as is or in parts before I scrap what's left. I was told the engine was converted to 12v and ran prior to my purchase but I never tried to run it. The bell housing etc. for the 4 speed manual transmission is still attached as well as any parts inside the bell housing.

I will provide pictures in the near future, but the engine information I previously determined includes:

Engine ID reported to be a 235 made between 1957 and 1962 for the passenger cars with 3-speed transmissions. T = Tonawanda Engine Plant; 8 = Month (August); 06 = Day; A = Regular 235 for passenger cars with 3-speed transmission. Subsequent engine block (3737004) casting and cylinder head (3866848) cast numbers determined. Also located tag that indicates it is bored 0.060 oversize, have 0.010 undersize rod journals, and I believe 0.010 undersize crank journals.

I will plan to identify the carburetor (if I can) but if there are any other parts that require identification please let me know.

To conform with forum rules I am listing the complete engine price as $200 or best offer as is, where is.

I will do my best to answer any questions.

The carburetor is a Rochester but I did not find any additional numbers to identify it.

Looks like a good deal IMHO. I'm good in the engine department at the moment, so can't help with a new home. Hope someone can helpf it find a new home.

PS - As a 3 speed engine, it would have been equipped with solid lifters.

Likely not to work out but where are you in Wisconsin?

I'm near Chilton Wisconsin, about 40 miles SW of Green Bay or 75 miles NW of Milwaukee.

I have no information about the engine internals, but if it was originally equipped with solid lifters, I suspect that it still is.

Depending on where your buddy travels we may be able to meet somewhere. I am not opposed to meeting somewhere along I90 west of Chicago if it would mean the engine is useful rather than being scrapped.

Don’t scrap the head. If you can’t find anyone to take everything, then at least save that much with the rocker assembly.

I'm not sure what parts would be worth saving but the head assembly will require a lot less room than the complete engine (probably why I have some non-truck related heads stored that I will never use).

Given that the block has boon bored oversize and the crank ground down I suspect that the bottom end is not worth saving. If I pull the head I will probably also save the carburetor, distributor, maybe the intake/exhaust manifolds, not sure about the bell housing/clutch/flywheel.

If nobody indicates interest in the whole engine I will probably decide what to save and scrap the rest before winter.

Too bad you're not a little closer to middle Tennessee (700+ miles per Map Quest)- - - -those "worn out" engines are exactly what I look for, since I don't have much interest in doing "stock" rebuilds. I regrind crankshafts to use much smaller diameter, later model rod and main bearings, and modify the bearing bores in the block to fit the later model main bearings. Ditto for connecting rods and pistons- - - - -custom rods for big block Chevy V8s and pistons for Japanese Diesel engines can be adapted to fit 216, 235, and 261 engines- - - - -giving around 20% larger displacement and lots more torque in the process. A "stock" engine is just a blank canvas for an engine building artist to use to create a masterpiece!
