I got myself what I think is a 46 Chevy grain truck. The bed was left behind in North Dakota so not sure about the use. I'm gathering info on my truck so I know how to order parts and how to rebuild what's missing. I posted on other forums, but most seem to be just foreigners looking to build advertising audiences, so no help.

Based on the king pin size, the reinforcing frame plates, and helper springs I think it's a 1-1/2 ton. Rebuilding the brakes seem to confirm that.

So here goes all the questions - how can I tell if my engine is a 235 or not? It has a welded over crack on the block and had emulsified oil in it. Don't seem to be losing water so think it was from sitting for decades. So we decided to drain that white oil and flush it with new oil 5 times and it runs with no smoke or steam! We'll see if the water contamination comes back.

Right now I'm looking for tires. I did order a couple new ones for the front to see how they work out but am open to a good set of 4 for the rear. It's also missing most all the e-brake setup from front to back. I'd also like to find another old bed if anyone has one either stake or grain bed or an old long metal one - thinking it'd be 10 ft. It has the PTO driven hydraulic cylinder lift I'm keeping to lift the bed at car cruises.I'm definitely keeping the body as is so am curious what I can wipe on to protect the old finish.

Most of the medium-duty trucks in the 1940s and early 50s had 235 cubic inch spray-oiler engines. The block casting number can confirm that- - - -it's located on the passenger's side front of the block above the oil pan rail, near the fuel pump. There is also a stamped number on a machined pad behind the distributor. Post both of those numbers and one of our part number crunchers will be able to tell you exactly what you have. If you happen to be looking at bare engine blocks, the 235s are 1/8" taller from the top of the block to the oil pan rail than the 216s- - - -to account for the slightly longer stroke crankshaft in the 235.

A frame reinforcing plate usually means you have a 2 ton chassis- - - - -does it also have a 2 speed vacuum shift rear axle?

Specifically the detailed shots Jerry mentioned as those are the details we need to help answer your "engine question". Please post picture format files (jpg, png, etc) instead of PDF's as PDF's don't readily display for all to enjoy. If you need help with that, see this post.

On the rest of your topic in this post, please take a few minutes and go read Welcome -- and now where do you go??. Once you've read through that, please post specific topic questions in the best Tech Forum that fits the topic best.

On that note, you could probably post most general questions in the Big Bolts forum as many things related to your truck are "Big Bolt" specific.
