Just curious if you knew what year the oil filler cap moved from the crankcase breather tube to the front of the valve cover. I have a breather tube with oil cap, but the engine it was on also had a fill cap on the valve cover. The engine was out of a 46 truck, but was actually a '50 block and head. Looks like the valve cover in front has a flat spot for the fill cap, but not punched out.

The cover without an oil cap is original 1946, the other is original 1950 . I would assume the change was in 1949, but that is just a guess. The cap is a later style, late ‘50s -early’60s. I may have a correct cap.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. That makes sense. I was recently browsing a website that erroneously said the oil fill cap was on the breather tube throughout the AD series.
