| | | | Joined: Aug 2022 Posts: 43 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2022 Posts: 43 | I have a 1953 Chevy 3100 pickup that I am restoring. It currently has a 1955 Chevy 235 engine in it. It runs pretty well, but I am wanting to get a good used core/rebuild candidate going this winter so I can have a good rebuilt engine on the stand. I think this 235 is getting tired but it should last me for a bit.
Truck has the original SM420 paired to the 235 right now.
Also looking for tips and recommendations on people who have built 216 vs 235, and the benefits and drawbacks to both (besides full oil pressure difference).

If you want a little more oomph, consider trying to find a 261, which is basically a bolt in replacement of your 235. I frequently see 235's being offered for sale in various place in WA and the PNW. It would help with tracking down leads if you could be more specific about what part of the state you're in?  Your last question is better asked in the Engine Shop forum, as it's more along the lines of technical information.  Best of luck in your engine search!

| | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 5,754 Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT | | Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 5,754 | A little web surfing this morning and here's some candidates I found in the PNW that might be of interest to you: 1960 Chevy, 6 cylinder engine and 3 speed manual trans. - $300 located NE of Bend, OR. 5 different Chevy 235 engines* in Boise, ID. * 1 of the 5 pictured engines is actually a later 230/250, not 235. No pictures clearly verify on the 235's as far as early or late, nor serial#s to see what they may have come out of. The '60 Chevy 235 actually looks like it's coming from a passenger car, but looks to be a pretty reasonable deal.
